My name is Jeff McNab, but I’m pretty sure you could tell that by the blog name and address. I’m a senior studying Game Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I’ve been interested in game design all my life, even though I wasn’t really aware of it until the past couple of years. I spent most of my childhood playing games: board games, card games, video games, games of my own creation.
After I graduated high school, I had planned on getting a degree in Computer Science. After my first CompSci class, though, I changed my mind. As much fun as I had creating systems and being a math nerd, which I still am, I didn’t find computer science that challenging or interesting. After a hiatus from the academic world to figure out what I wanted to do, I started looking into computer animation. That’s when I found out about SCAD.
My first year at SCAD, I took an Intro to Game Design course. I had originally thought about going into the industry as a texture artist, but after that first course, I was addicted to game design. Eventually, as I progressed through the program and learned more and more, I decided that a designers position is what I was going to shoot for. I had more fun, and more skill, at game design than modeling or texturing. Through the support for my friends and family, not to mention many wonderful mentors and professors at the school, I will be graduating in 2008.
